Your right Is Only Restored By Pardon If...

Depending on the type of crime you've committed, you may be able to restore your voting rights. If you were convicted of certain offenses, your right may only be restored through applying for a pardon with the Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles. These offenses are

  • Murder
  • Impeachment
  • Rape (Any Degree)
  • Sodomy (Any Degree)
  • Sexual abuse (Any Degree)
  • Incest
  • Sexual Torture
  • Enticing a child to enter a vehicle for immoral purposes
  • Soliciting a child by computer
  • Production of obscene matter
  • Production of obscene matter involving a minor
  • Parents or guardians permitting children to engage in obscene matter
  • Possession of obscene matter
  • Possession with intent to distribute child pornography
  • Treason

FOR ANY OTHER FELONY CONVICTION, YOU MAY APPLY FOR A CERTIFICATE OF ELIGIBILITY TO REGISTER TO VOTE...

To qualify for such a certificate, you must meet the following:

  • You have been convicted of one of the felonies involving a crime of moral turpitude that is not an ineligible conviction (the above list).
  • You have no pending criminal felony charges.
  • You have paid all fines, court ordered costs, fees, and restitution ordered at the time of sentencing on disqualifying cases in full.
  • Your sentence has been completed.
  • You have successfully completed probation or parole.

How to apply...

There are five options to notify the Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles of your intent to restore your eligibility to vote. Information You Need to Provide When Applying...

 

  • Name at Conviction and Your True Name
  • Sex and Race
  • Date of Birth
  • Social Security Number
  • AIS# (Alabama Prison #), if You Have One
  • Current Physical Address, Including County
  • Current Mailing Address, if Different From Physical Address
  • Indicate if the Conviction was a Federal or State Conviction
  • Phone Number, Including Area Code
  • Complete List of Convictions, Including County and Year

What Happens Next...

After providing this information, the Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles will next determine if you meet the criteria. Then, they will provide a full investigation. If the Board reaches a favorable determination, they will issue the certificate.
